QUOTES & STORIES

FOR THE SAKE OF OUR COMMUNITY, OUR SENIORS, AND OUR CHILDREN...

It is time for an override - 2 1/2 % is not enough to cover costs and inflation over time, let alone increased health care, safety, special education, and intergenerational socio-emotional needs and costs.  What our teachers, staff, and administration are doing is heroic and getting harder.  Both town and school employees impact citizens and students on a daily basis in meaningful and lasting ways.  They give of their personal time and expertise, many of them well beyond their required daytime hours.  I do not want to see town services cut, nor the attrition that will follow.

My husband and I plan to live our lives here.  We are deeply invested in our community and appreciate the special place that Reading is.  As a volunteer, I have seen the expertise, time, creativity, and soul that our administrators and staff have dedicated to controlling costs, creating and maintaining exemplary programs, and informing the public about all aspects of school and government spending.   We don’t want to see that degraded over time and we want them to continue to be proactive vs solely reactive.  We have not had an override in 13 years, it is necessary NOW for the sake of our community, our seniors, and our children.
